Early Life & Background
Sofia Huerta is a professional soccer player born in Boise, Idaho, where she grew up in a sports-oriented family. Her mother was a former basketball player, and her father played soccer, which fostered her passion for athletics from a young age. Huerta attended Santa Clara University, where she played for the Santa Clara Broncos from 2011 to 2014, earning accolades such as being a two-time All-American and leading her team to the NCAA Final Four in 2013.
Club Career
Huerta's professional club career began with the Houston Dash in 2018, where she made a significant impact by scoring 13 goals in 47 appearances. In 2018-2019, she was loaned to Sydney FC in the W-League, where she played every minute of every game, contributing to Sydney's victory in the W-League Championship. After returning to the Dash, she joined Seattle Reign FC in 2020. On February 3, 2020, Huerta was acquired by OL Reign in a trade, where she continued to showcase her skills as a defender. In September 2024, she joined Olympique Lyonnais on loan, further enhancing her career in European football.
International Career
Sofia Huerta has represented both the United States and Mexico at the international level. She made her debut for the Mexico national team in April 2018 after previously playing for the U.S. at the youth level. Notably, she became the first player to compete for both national teams. After a period with Mexico, Huerta announced her intention to switch her allegiance back to the U.S. in early 2021, aiming to compete at the highest levels of international football. As of October 2023, she has earned 32 caps for the U.S. Women's National Team.
