Early Life & Background
Esmee Virginia Brugts was born on July 28, 2003, in Heinenoord, Netherlands. She began her football journey at a young age, joining local club SV Heinenoord in 2008, where she honed her skills for eight years. Brugts continued her development at FC Binnenmaas from 2016 to 2020, where she showcased her talent and versatility as a forward.
Club Career
Brugts made her professional debut with PSV Eindhoven in 2020, quickly establishing herself as a key player. Over three seasons with PSV, she made 54 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists. In August 2023, Brugts signed a four-year contract with FC Barcelona, where she has since contributed significantly to the team's success. As of the 2025-2026 season, she has made 101 appearances for Barcelona, netting 22 goals and assisting 19 times. Notably, she scored an impressive hat-trick against Eibar in December 2023, illustrating her scoring ability and adaptability on the pitch.
International Career
Brugts has represented the Netherlands at various youth levels, including the U15, U16, U17, U18, and U19 teams, where she scored a total of 18 goals in 31 appearances. In 2023, she participated in the FIFA Women's World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand, where she scored two goals in five matches, helping her team reach the knockout stages. Her international experience continues to grow as she becomes a vital part of the senior national team.
